Description
A compatibility shim that lets JupyterLab and other frontends switch to Jupyter Server for their Python web application backend. It helps older notebook-facing code work during the server transition.
It is backend compatibility infrastructure, not an interface users open directly. Keep it when Jupyter frontends or extensions require the notebook shim.
