GIS distance calculations can be added to Perl tools from the development branch of GIS::Distance. Developers use it for mapping, routing estimates, spatial search, and reports based on coordinate pairs. It processes location coordinates supplied by the caller, which may be sensitive in user-tracking or logistics contexts.
