Description

Converts text files from one character encoding to another so old documents, scripts, or data exports can be read correctly on modern systems. It is useful when names, accents, or symbols appear broken after moving files between platforms.

Use it from the terminal when you know the source and target encodings. Conversion can permanently change file contents, so keep a copy of important files before processing large batches.
